Abstract
The purpose of this project is to improve second graders' understanding and use of genre through the classroom library. It includes eight units focused on realistic fiction, poetry, fantasy, folktales, myths and legends, non-fiction (information books), biographies, and fairytales. Each unit combines student focused group book sorting, book browsing, reading log entries, whole group activities, and a genre review form.
